Subluxation Degeneration

Phases of Degeneration/Spinal Decay

A Spine Degenerates in Stages or Phases:

Degeneration Phase 1

First your spine loses its normal balance and motion due to an accident(s). Typically there is a loss of the normal spinal curves which places abnormal stress on the discs, joints and nerves. The discs begin to become wedged/thinned posteriorly which starts to occlude the holes for the spinal nerves coming out of your spinal cord. Your nerves may be affected and the vital life energy that flows over them is interfered with. Also your joints, discs, nerves and posture are stressed and start to age more quickly. Surprisingly, there may be no pain other than occasional minor discomfort. Also present may be fatigue and slight vertebrae height loss. If a proper regimen of chiropractic care is followed, this phase responds very well.

Degeneration Phase 2

Here there is a much greater degree of decay, disc narrowing and bone spurs (deformations); postural changes are much worse. The disc goes from swollen to thinning. Spinal canal narrowing or stenosis may occur, which impinges the spinal nerve and/or spinal cord even more. This phase is characterized by more frequent and severe aches and pains, fatigue, numbness/tingling and a diminished ability to cope with stress. Activities of daily living are starting to become much harder to do. The vertebral body height continues to decrease. With chiropractic care significant improvement is possible if utilized properly.

Degeneration Phase 3

This is the most advanced stage of subluxation degeneration. There is severe postural imbalance and limited mobility. Other signs are permanent nerve damage, permanent scar tissue and advanced bone spur formation. Physical and/or mental weakness or disability begin. The bones begin to fuse and the discs are almost completely gone. In this phase we find severe pain, various degrees of physical or mental disability, severely lessened quality of life, and continued fatigue and height. By now the condition is considered irreversible. Chiropractic may give some symptomatic relief.

  • "My original problem was lower back pain which affected my ability to complete normal daily task. I often experienced difficulty walking and bending. Although, I visited other chiropractic offices in previous years, Dr. Stidwell was able to provide more information regarding my condition. This has given me very good reason to continue coming to Copiah Family Wellness and Chiropractic Center. My life has changed now with more information regarding my condition. I have now been able to be more active without limitation or fear of hurting my back or being in terrible pain. I have hope for only having to have minimal or less frequent visits but also become more knowledgeable and continue to come to Copiah Family Wellness for spinal adjustments."

  • "My right arm, upper and lower back were in constant pain. I could not
reach behind me or lift an objects of minimum weight without it hurting. My
grip in my right hand was weak. It was hard to hold even a broom without
hurting. I could not bend down to pick up anything or even get down on both
knees to pray. I had to go down on my left knee only. After being in so
much pain even after going to physical therapy at another facility, I
decided to go in and talk with Dr. Stidwell and she informed me of the
differences between the two processes of therapy and now my body has
experienced the difference. I’m better!! I had spoken with Dr. Stidwell
months before actually going in. I am now able to go down on both knees. I
can lift objects much better with my right hand now. I’m able to move the
arm back and forward with minimum pain. I’ve learned how to properly bend
and lift and how to use all the muscles to aid me in day to day activities."

  • "When I first started coming, I had neck stiffness where I could only turn my neck to the left and hardly none to the right. I decided to come to the office after initially talking with Dr. Stidwell prior and her prompting me to schedule a visit, therefore, I did. My experience here has been life changing because it made a difference instantly. My hope for my health with ongoing chiropractic care is remaining pain free."

  • "My original problem was concerns about my back and having muscle spasms. I also have had a pulsating sound in my ear. The problem was affecting me by causing discomfort. I came to this office when I had a consultation done and wanted to further discuss my issues. I think that my life is changing because I am getting good results from my experiences her at this office. My hope for health with ongoing chiropractic care is to have a healthier and happier life knowing that I can feel great."

  • "I originally came into Dr. Stidwell office because my back, hip, and shoulders hurt when I try to do housework. I haven’t had a day without pain in ten years. I had a talk with Dr. Stidwell and I decided to come and get checked out. Chiropractic has changed my life for the better. I had my first day without pain in a long time and it felt good. My hope for my health with ongoing chiropractic care is to have a life without pain."

  • "I came to Dr. Stidwell's office because I was having shoulder pain while recovering from rotator cuff surgery. I was unable to move my arm up above my head or behind my back without being in extreme pain. Dr. Stidwell did a laser treatment on my shoulder and immediately I was able to lift my arm without pain. Since being treated I have been able to do daily activities, I felt calm and at ease with dealing with the pain, recovery, and overall wellness. Eventually I hope to be off of existing medications and learn how to achieve a healthy lifestyle."
